The Chorale

     The Chorale is a 4th-12th grade auditioned choir directed by Barbara Walker and Melanie Rushing. Any child who has been in the LPCC Chorus for at least one semester may audition for membership in Chorale. Students in Chorale are regularly selected through outside auditions for membership in State, Regional and National Honor Choirs. The Chorale has received Superior Ratings and rave reviews in every contest and festival they have entered for the past thirteen years!


Selection for membership in Chorale is based on:

  • vocal quality and vocal range
  • ability to read rhythmic notation
  • ability to read melodic patterns in solfege
  • abitity to follow a musical score
  • ability to work efficiently in Chorus rehearsals
  • conduct and dependability in Chorus
  • musical leadership in Chorus

Performances by Chorale includes:

  • Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra (featured in six seasons with Christmas Pops Concert series, and in three Masterworks Concerts, performing works by Orff, Mahler and Britten.) The Chorale will be performing Carmina Burana with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra again, in April, 2008.
  • Louisiana State Vocal Conference invitational performances in 1992 and 1997 (also invited to perform at the 2004 state conference.)
  • Louisiana Sinfonietta 2004

Television performances:

  • WVLA Channel 33, Sunday Morning Show Christmas Concert (twice)
  • WAFB Channel 9, Saturday Morning Show.

     Chorale tours include: Austria, England, including performances in Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square in London, All Saint's Church in York, and Collegiate Church of St. Mary in Warwick, Carnegie Hall in New York, New York, Disney World in Orlando, Florida, St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, Louisiana, th Lincoln Memorial and many other venues in Washington, D.C. Chorale is regularly invited to represent Louisiana in Choral Festivals around the world.
